Present:
Child Abuse Certification
Conference 2007
Columbia University Professor Emeritus, Leah Blumberg
Lapidus, links prevention of abuse and exploitation of children
to reduction of domestic and international violence. Dr. Lapidus
has worked extensively with adult and child survivors of Human
Rights Violations and abuse of children and families in natural
and human disasters such as wars. Professor Lapidus found that
flexible individuals, who can separate their abusive experience
from the rest of their relationships and can maintain a sense
of human empathy, master their individual trauma more successfully
than those who rigidly generalize interpersonal injury and
dogmatically mistrust attachment.
Professor Lapidus will
present the 19th Annual Course in Child Abuse and Maltreatment
Identification, Reporting and Intervention for Mandated Professionals,
Candidates in Training, and Concerned Citizens. Participants
in this New York State Approved Course earn the official New
York State Certificate and seven hours of Continuing Professional
