New York, August 20, 2007—On August, 15 2007, Nigerian Tribune reported that, “A good number of members of the National Assembly have been arriving in Maryland/Washington DC area of the United States to attend a birthday bash planned by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mrs. Patricia Olubunmi Etteh.
Etteh, who would be turning 54 on Friday, has invited almost all members of the National Assembly to attend the event expected to be held somewhere in Bowie, Maryland, where the Speaker is said to have a family home.
A beauty therapist by profession, Etteh has a Diploma in Law from the University of Abuja and her main legislative interests, according to her, is woman/child rights, equity and fair play, while she listed her legislative target achievement thus: "to develop the rural areas”.
Africans In America News Watch researchers discovered that earlier reports quoted Ette's assistants saying she was visiting the US to either deliver a lecture or for medical check-up.

Contrary to these denials by her colleagues at the National Assembly in Nigeria and her aides, the Speaker of the Nigeria House of Representatives, Mrs. Patricia Olubunmi Etteh celebrated her Birthday on Friday night at her Willes Vision Drive home in Bowie, MD (USA). There were reports that many house of reps members in Nigeria attended the event.
Sources close to her said she had been to a hospital for a medical check-up before the party on Friday evening. No report on any lecture she delivered, yet.
Bold-face misinformation, lies and apparent misconducts such as these by elected public officials do not sit well with Nigerian-Americans tied of rots in the world re-known oil-rich corrupt Giant of Africa. Nigerian-Americans have resolved to make it very difficult for Nigerian government officials to use all sorts of excuse to launder and squander public funds in United States. Many Nigerian-Americans including females are calling for responsible leadership and clinical investigation.
