Nigeria populist ‘Servant-leader’, President Yar’Adua in New York, USA

New York, September 26, 2007---As Nigeria head of government, President Yar’Adua goes back home after his first official visit to United States since his controversial ‘election’ into office, Nigerians in United States concerned about current revelations of decay in Nigeria government express their disappointment on 2 key ‘leaders’:

Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Michael Aondoakaa (SAN) and Orji Uzor Kalu corruption case

Africans In America News Watch investigation reveals that the manner the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Michael Kaase Aondoakaa (SAN) announced his presence and take-over of a case involving suspected corrupt former government officials in public (in open court) was seen by Nigerian-Americans as low, tasteless, classless, brutish, uncivilized, unprofessional, suspicious, unbecoming of holder of his office and quite surprisingly ‘unlearned’.

Nigerian-Americans feel there are abundantly better ways to procedurally and effectively take-over the case, if constitutionally allowed, and spare the Nigeria masses, administration of justice, and most especially the populist ‘servant-leader’ (President Yar’Adua, that is) the unnecessary embarrassments his administration and the whole nation had been thrown into.

“The revelation that the Attorney General may have had some of the suspected corrupt former governors/officials in his list of clientele in his private law firm is shocking, alarming, and very interesting’, said a Nigerian worker in New York City government who wish to remain anonymous.

“If anyone had committed unruly and disorderly conduct in the manner the take-over of a case under investigation and prosecution was done, Nigeria Attorney General is surely the prime suspect”, said a young Nigerian called ‘Omo New York’.

“The Attorney General needs to make public his record of accomplishments, if any, in recovering the billions and trillions of public funds stolen by past leaders other than mischievously stalling the war on corruption by fighting with the most effective Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Malam Nuhu Ribadu. He also needs to make public his record of convictions, unless he believes that former government officials made judicious use of public fund entrusted to their care and no money were stolen”, according a fellow who identified himself as Usman Yusuf.

Majority of Nigerian-Americans regret that, the Attorney General’s actions and pronouncements have diverted the focus and energy of government to his conduct instead of where it should be, which is the war on corruption. “Regrettably, the Attorney General’ actions may be frustrating the war against corruption”, summed up a female freelance reporter who does not want her name mentioned.

Speaker of Nigeria House of Representatives Mrs. Patricia Olubunmi Etteh

In Nigeria, apparently one does not need to know how to make laws to become a lawmaker or the head of the lawmaking body; what one needs is ‘powerful political godfather’.

Since assumption of office of the Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives Mrs. Patricia Olubunmi Etteh, a beautician/hair dresser made speaker under very questionable circumstance has taken her office to a new low in wasteful spending and irresponsibility, Africans In America News Watch investigation had revealed.

First was her the circumstances surrounding her 54th birthday party in Willes Vision Drive Bowie, Maryland (USA) Friday August 17, 2007. Initially she denied coming to United States for her birthday party and ever organizing it, saying rather that she was visiting to deliver a lecture and for medical check-up.

Contrary to these denials by her colleagues at the National Assembly in Nigeria and her aides, the Speaker celebrated her Birthday on Friday night at her Willes Vision Drive home in Bowie, MD (USA) Friday August 17, 2007 in company of many house of reps members from Nigeria.

On the huge contract scandal currently rocking the House of Representatives, the Speaker, no doubt is innocent until proven guilty, however, the information coming out of the House probe of her alleged N628million-contract scandal and how she ran the business of the House, to say the least, are;  incredible, mind-bugling and unprecedented.

Africans In America warns the Nigerian President to weed his administration of retrogressive forces and enemies of corrupt-free Nigeria occupying various positions in his government who may be using ‘adherence to the rule of law’ as excuse to derail Nigeria rightful war on corruption spearheaded by Malam Nuhu Ribadu and his EFCC.

If the AGF, the Speaker and their likes decide to show some patriotism and great love for Nigeria by ‘taking a bow’ and rightfully leave so that someone else will clean the mess they created, the President and Nigerians should waste no time accepting their resignation with loud and boisterous farewell, and the ‘rule of law’ will be allowed to deal with their mess.

Long live the vigilant Federal Republic of Nigeria
