Jobless youths at Nigeria city of Onitsha brutally slaughtered by Nigerian Army
Sat 01st July, 2006

At the request of Anambra State Governor Peter Obi, President Obasanjo sent soldiers to Onitsha to quell civil protest of jobless youths who are mostly victims of domestic trafficking in persons.

Instead of addressing the miserable plights of these youths who were lured from various undeveloped villages into the cities with false promises of business and better life, the government labeled them as miscreants, undesirables and dissidents, and brutally slaughtered them in cold blood.

Controlling civil unrest is clearly a police function requiring no military intervention. While the government slaughter the protesting jobless youths in hundreds, the handful cronies of the President who milk the state treasury dry are heavily protected by government security forces.

These protesting youths are not enemies of Nigeria. These are Nigerian youths protesting the mismanagement of resources that resulted in their predicaments. Nigeria system clearly failed these youths.

It’s a shame and so sad, indeed. Yes, it is.
